Our growing chapter of professional communicators lives and works in the greater Jacksonville region and beyond. While the majority of our members reside in Jacksonville, Florida, several of our chapter members live as far away as South Georgia, North Florida and Central Florida.

Our chapter provides excellent opportunities for your professional development. We offer monthly chapter meetings by facilitating dynamic programs to meet membership needs, career and skills development, and networking opportunities With guest speakers and webinars. We are continuously finding new ways to update and educate our members on emerging trends in communication.

Member Spotlight - Kerry Schicker

I am a Florida native, born in St. Petersburg. I have lived in St. Pete, Clearwater, Tampa, Orlando, Lady Lake, Mount Dora, Ft. Myers and Jacksonville.

I graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in mass communications and a minor in broadcast journalism. I was the first student selected to anchor the university’s news program. After graduating, I pursued a TV news career and worked in several Florida markets as a reporter, anchor and producer.

After moving to Jacksonville to produce Good Morning Jacksonville, I wanted to try a different approach to storytelling. I got a job as a staff writer for a local magazine and went on to work as a magazine editor before jumping into the advertising/PR world. I spent a few years at a local agency honing my press release writing and media relations skills.

IABC's Chairman Adrian Cropley, ABC, from Melbourne, Australia will explain how to Cut Through the Communication Noise.

Effective communication is often espoused, but does anyone really understand what it is? Or, are we just creating noise?

We are so eager to be heard that, in fact, we start shouting! (not literally) We are shouting through the messages we send via one media or another. Email has replaced dialogue. But, imagine if we could cut through the noise and be heard ... what a difference it would make in terms of mutual understanding and shared knowledge.

Adrian has over 20 years communication experience in the private and public sectors and has had key roles in HR management, change and organizational development and internal communications. He has held various volunteer positions in IABC, was named the 2008 IABC Volunteer of the Year and has been instrumental in the growth and development of chapters across the Asia and Pacific Regions.
