Learn how companies can best use these sites to their advantage and minimize the risks associated with postings on social media channels.

Making the Most of What You’ve Got: Internal Communications in Challenging Times: A Case Study: City of Jacksonville

Date: Wednesday, November 17, 2010
Speaker: Angela Vigil, Internal Communications Manager, City of Jacksonville
Location: North Florida TPO, 1022 Prudential Drive

About the Program
Nearly every industry has been affected by what is now widely known as the “Great Recession.”  But perhaps the sector of the economy most impacted has been city government.  With consumers and businesses financially stretched, the pressure is on to lower taxes and cut back already small budgets. Yet in tough financial times, demand for city services grows exponentially.

In this timely and informative presentation, Angela Vigil, internal communications manager for the City of Jacksonville, shares successes in building morale for 8,000 city employees, creating quality communications while lowering costs and managing stakeholder perceptions in today’s environment.

As these are challenges all communicators face regardless of industry, Angela’s presentation promises takeaways even the most seasoned practitioner can put immediately into practice.

About the Speaker: Angela Vigil
In her role as internal communications manager for the City of Jacksonville, Angela develops and implements a variety of employee communications projects for city departments such as Disabled Services, Victims Services, the Parks Task Force, Jacksonville Children’s Commission, Animal Care and Control, and Clean it Up, Green it Up and many others.

She has worked for the city since 2001, and her initiatives have included an award-winning online newsletter for the city’s 8,000 employees, using social media and forum marketing strategies to foster brand recognition and creating measurement mechanisms to gauge stakeholder response to messaging.  She also serves as Web content manager for the city’s intranet.

Angela has been in communications for 15 years and her background includes a stint as senior account executive with The Robin Shepherd Group, in which she managed the National Healthy Heart Awareness Campaign and launched the “What’s Your Diagnosis” cardiology seminar for continuing education programs and “The PetCare Minute” radio program.

Angela has received numerous awards for her work, including national recognition for video production, Web site creation, and strategic communication, and in 2009 was named an IABC Rising Star.
